Our Canadian Connection

Our Canadian Connection

Our connection with our wonderful Canadian neighbors to the north has been expanding in its scope.  During 2001 we took Dream Chaser over the Columbia River Bar, up the Washington coast to Barkley Sound in southwestern Vancouver Island.  We spent 3 weeks total, exploring Barkley Sound, the San Juan Islands, Gulf Islands, and then back down the Washington coast across the Columbia Bar, and back to our homeport, Portland.  In early July 2002 we took a week long Offshore Sailing Class from Cooper Boating in Vancouver, B.C..  This class met in Ucluelet in southwestern Vancouver Island, sailed 138 miles off the Vancouver Island, explored the coastal waters, worked on celestial navigation and man over-board drills, sailing a total of 500 nautical miles during the week.

Jim, the financial analyst, put up with the 'Yanks' on the Port Watch. Sue takes a celestial fix of the sun.

Scott Watson, owner of Ramos Fiz, instructor of the Offshore Sailing Class, was a first class storyteller. Tom listens intently.

Larry Young enjoyed sailing, opera, and travel to Europe! We had similar interests!!
