Our Motivation:
What is our dream? It is a journey, not a destination. It is an adventure, demanding active participation. It is finding ourselves within each other. It is creating community with everyone we touch.
Portland, Oregon is our homeport. But the Pacific Northwest of the US is our home. Gunk-holing around Puget Sound, the San Juan Islands, the Gulf Islands, the coast line of British Columbia and Vancouver Island beckons us. But our horizons don't end there. We will harbor-hop down the West Coast of the US and spend a year or two in Mexico.
During the Summer of 2005 we came ashore and toured National Parks in Montana, Utah and Arizona for the first time. Returning to Mexico and Dream Chaser in October 2005, we enjoyed another winter there. The decision was made to sell Dream Chaser in San Diego in April 2006, and purchase s/v Julia Max, a 1982 45' Custom Peterson Ketch. Julia Max's hull was worked on in Puerto Vallarta, then she was sailed up to San Diego, and on to Portland in August 2006. A retrofit of most boat systems was accomplished in Portland, OR from September 2006 through April 2007.
Julia Max will be heading north to Alaska for the summer of 2007, returning to Portland for the Fall and Winter of 2007-8.
Salient advice from Mark Twain:
"Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover."
