Tracy Arm, Juneau and Skagway 2007

Tracy Arm and Skagway were two side trips near Juneau that we just loved.  The weather has cooperated for the most part.  Last year's weather here was horrendous.

Seeing whale tails says their diving and goodbye. Humpbacks have a 'fingerprint' on the bottom of their tale.

Sum Dum Glacier near Tracy Arm was stunning!

Tracy Arm majestically dwarfs this cruise ship.

Seagulls found refuge on this 'bergie bit'.

This brown bear was as shocked as we were, as we motored by in Julia Max.

Congested 'Bergie bits' prevented us from going further.

A game of inertia, the bigger the bits the more reluctant to move away.

The Ice Age glacier scored these striations into the fiord walls.

Juneau's Auke Bay was our base of operations for going to Skagway.

For our anniversary we went to a restaurant at the top of a tram overlooking Juneau.

This overview of Juneau is from Mt. Roberts.

This Piper took us to Skagway. We were on the ground in Juneau for 30 minutes before a weather window opened.

We flew in a small Piper airplane to Scagway in marginal weather.

These White Pass engines pulled passenger cars up the grade.

Beautiful scenery everywhere.

Four different climatic zones were seen on the trip.

This snowplow had seen major use: 250,000 miles on this short spur.

Hard to look anywhere and not see spectacular scenery. This is from the mouth of the river at Skagway.

Mendenhal Glacier comes up to the city limits of Juneau!
