Julia Max in BoatYard 2006 Part2

  Julia Max continues to receive attention on deck, on topsides, and  below the waterline.  Scheduled for splash down on June 8th, shortly afterward she will be headed to the Pacific Northwest.

The topsides are painted. And finally the rebuilding process begins on the hull.

After a thin polyester epoxy coat was applied to the topsides, the remains of the sanding shows where the crazing had been.

Below the stern exhaust was a weakness that was repaired.

The speedo blade requires repair.

The boat hull is basically one-half inch fiberglass. But some places around the keel are one inch thick.

Non-skid was applied to the top deck.

The first coat of polyester epoxy was applied to the skinned hull.

Sanding after polyester epoxy was applied.

The bottom after polyester epoxy was applied.

When sanding was done, the tarps shrouded the sides keeping the dust down.

The Travel Lift raises Julia Max so that the keel bottom can be worked on.

Oscar applies polyester epoxy on the keel bottom.

Oscar applies fiberglass to the keel bottom.

The rudder had need for repairs.

The rudder problems were repaired and re-surfaced.

Juan and Javier, brothers, remounted the rudder.

The rudder has been remounted, and propellor polished.

Rudder bottom bracket drilled and alignment of brackets set.

Juan Gonzales, the contract manager, paid close attention to the work.

The first prime coat applied shows small nicks and divots in the polyester epoxy to be touched up before the final steps.

The final polyester epoxy filled nicks and scratches visible in the primer paint.

Raw water through-hull has strainer on it now.

Final of four barrier coats were applied.

Speedo protector rebuilt.

Red primer coat being applied, while one last through-hull was being mounted by Alvaro.

Red primer coat of 2 gallons was complete, and ready for the two final black coats.

Final work on the deck included mounting fixtures, touching up paint-overs, and remounting basket and dorade protectors.

The forward deck is clean and functional.

With the speedo in place, it is protected by the repaired blade.

The final two coats of black Pettit Trinidad SR are applied.

She's ready for going back in the water!

After waxing, she will be put in the water today, Saturday, June 10th, 33 days in the yard!
