Central California - Sept 2008

After leaving San Francisco we enjoyed Santa Cruz, CA for a couple days.   Monterey Aquarium always attracts our attention.  We sailed around Pt. Conception to Santa Barbara, and on to Santa Cruz Island in the Channel Islands.  Pacific Mariners' Y.C. in Marina Del Rey was a most gracious host.  Then we motored to Santa Catalina where we had a couple scuba dives in 50+ visibility water.  We left Avalon at 0400 as the Santa Anna's were predicted, and had a great sail to San Diego.

As we left SF, Sue was singing 'I left my heart...'

California Oil Platforms looked like ships at night, major obstacles by day.

Rounding Point Conception, we had winds NW25. Good sailing!

Crossing from Santa Barbara to Santa Cruz Island, we were doing 8.3 knots in W16 winds. Not bad!

Pelican Cove at Santa Cruz Island was a great anchorage while winds picked up outside.

This house in Marina Del Rey was infested with pirates.

Avalon on Santa Catalina Island charms the visitor with radio history, scenery, and activity.
